Another Triathlon Pod (00:01.195)
Welcome back to another Trap On podcast brought to you by Mana Apparel. This is it. It is race weekend for the Ironman 70 point pre-world championships here in Marbella, Spain. And what a race it's shaping up to be. We're going to run through everything going on this weekend. We'll make a few predictions along the way. And I am so stoked to be here on site. It is going to be a stunning race. But first, let's catch up with the crew. The boys had a bit of an adventure in New York here. So we'll catch up and see how it went this weekend up in New York City.
before we dive into the Ironman Triathlon fun. let's turn up with you, Fede. How'd your race go out there?
Fed (00:37.9)
Yeah, no, hey guys, happy to see you in beautiful Spain, Jenna, a little jealous right now. But yeah, race went okay. I was trying to see how fast I could go. And the legs didn't show up.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:01.812)
Yeah.
Fed (01:02.006)
I just so... But I loved it either way. I loved it, took in the energy. I knew early on that it wasn't gonna be like a fast day for me. I... You know when you... One of those days when you just know that you just won't be able to push as hard as you normally can. So... But I just took it all in. The energy was amazing. And... Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:18.6)
Mm-hmm.
Fed (01:31.872)
It was an incredible race. was awesome to share it with Josh. Yeah, it was pretty cool to hang out with him and Janine, his wife. Yeah, they were amazing. yeah, the race was pretty cool running through the five boroughs. yeah, it's crazy to think that this is just my...
Another Triathlon Pod (01:37.045)
Yeah, it sounds like you guys had fun.
Fed (02:00.77)
my third standalone marathon. Like I think I've ran more marathons on an Iron Man than just regular marathons. And I don't know why, but my body feels way more tired and it aches more just on a standalone marathon than...
Another Triathlon Pod (02:15.287)
Thanks
Another Triathlon Pod (02:22.913)
Mm-hmm.
Fed (02:22.944)
on an Ironman. don't know why, but yeah, it was pretty cool. And, you know, a little story of just me being me a couple days before the race, Josh was asking me how am I going to get to Staten Island, which is where the race starts. And I was like, well, I don't know.
And he told me, didn't you sign up for the transportation thing? And I was like, Nope. I just clicked the, have my own transportation and I'm going to get there by myself. And he was like, come on. So literally like 24 hours before the race, I had no idea how I was going to get, I was going to get to Staten Island. So, figure that out and, yes.
Another Triathlon Pod (02:58.549)
No.
Josh (03:08.686)
Actually, Chad GPT figured it out for us.
Another Triathlon Pod (03:12.757)
Good for everything.
Fed (03:14.016)
Yeah, I was like, Hey, Josh, I don't believe in AI just ask the GPT what he's gonna suggest and fortunately, the GPT answered and delivered and
Another Triathlon Pod (03:19.831)
You
Fed (03:28.624)
I, on race morning, I texted Josh. First of all, I texted him that I was awake and then I texted him when I got to the race site. But he was already there with the VIP people and I was just outside, freezing, sitting, eating bagels.
Another Triathlon Pod (03:37.301)
and
Another Triathlon Pod (03:49.271)
Amazing. Well, it sounds like you had some fun times out there too, Josh. How did they go?
Josh (03:56.966)
It was an amazing weekend. think from the start, we survived the monsoon on Thursday as we went to the expo. But Fed and I caught up there real quick and did a whole bunch of stuff, ran into a whole bunch of people and didn't get to a lot of the pop-ups and things that we wanted to do because New York's so big and so spread out and a lot of the events were like in Brooklyn or down in...
the SoHo area and we were staying up more towards the park. And when you get that many people in the city, it makes for a long commute. So we ended up picking and choosing where we went for shakeouts and pop-ups, but it was just a really, really neat day. And then I did get a little bit extra VIP treatment because I was pacing my friend, Patina. there were two buses that we had to...
Another Triathlon Pod (04:45.866)
like it.
Josh (04:51.042)
to grab my bus was at 5.30 in the morning. So I think when Fed texted me, it was like 5.15 and I was standing, standing outside the buses as we were about to board to get ready to head over to Staten Island. But a really neat experience. You're literally on the bus, driving over the bridges of Manhattan and heading down to Staten Island and the sun's coming up over the city. And it was just absolutely beautiful.
Fed (04:56.814)
Yeah.
Josh (05:18.604)
We got there and I could see everyone down in the village had no idea where we were going, with the VIP tent, but we literally had a tent on the bridge between each of the two start lines. So it was like the pro woman on one side, the pro men on the other. And we were like dead center in the middle of the bridge up top and just really, really cool. And, and then I'm hanging out with, Chelsea Clinton, which I didn't even tell Fed about,
Another Triathlon Pod (05:31.947)
again.
Josh (05:46.83)
His favorite, Aaron Judge's wife. so his favorite Yankees, his wife was running the marathon and you look around and it's just all these really cool people. A lot of them were Broadway stars. A lot of them were reality stars and, um, but they were all preparing and getting ready to run a marathon. Just like everyone else. And everyone's doing their pre-race prep and asking questions and
Another Triathlon Pod (05:51.802)
It's.
Another Triathlon Pod (06:04.309)
That's wicked.
Josh (06:11.19)
I had to help Phil from the amazing race a little bit. He really didn't have any clue how to run a marathon. had not done more than 15 miles before and had a little bit of a niggle in his hamstring, but I finished and shortly after I finished, he came in and finished with a pretty decent time. So congrats, congrats to him. But I've run three marathons this year, Fed, actually. So as many as you.
Another Triathlon Pod (06:31.223)
Awesome.
Fed (06:37.989)
there we go.
Josh (06:40.162)
I've now run Boston, Chicago and New York. So all three us majors is really, really neat. And as a Bostonian, it's hard to say, but New York city is by far the best of the three marathons in terms of energy. And I was jumping around, getting the crowd hyped up. I was like that, that cheerleader dude on the, on the course running around having fun while working and making sure I was taking care of.
Another Triathlon Pod (06:53.644)
Really.
Fed (06:54.852)
There we go.
Josh (07:09.346)
patina and we were hitting our numbers and, and being a coach on the course was so fun. Like I, I, I couldn't, I couldn't imagine being under the pressure of carrying a stick and being an official pacer, but pacing one person or two people, very manageable, very fun. And, and you got to work hard. And, and I just kept checking, making sure she was good. We came up with a strategy that she would drink when I drank and we just kind of fueled and.
Another Triathlon Pod (07:15.905)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (07:21.111)
us.
Another Triathlon Pod (07:28.607)
it.
Josh (07:38.638)
And our bottles were where they were supposed to be and our people were where they were supposed to be. And next thing you know, we're at the halfway mark and we're right on pace. And she was shooting for a 11 minute PR. So big jump from Berlin, which is a flat course too.
Another Triathlon Pod (07:58.123)
Thank you.
Josh (08:00.134)
I, I had a lot of fun pacing her and, and man, she taught me how to dig deep and work hard. And like that, that girl went to a pretty dark place and I had to pull her out of it a couple of times. But next thing you know, there she is running side by side with me on fifth av as we head into the park and like totally grinding and gutting it out and, and sprint finish for her. And, we didn't get her.
Another Triathlon Pod (08:12.801)
Sorry.
Another Triathlon Pod (08:25.713)
It's incredible.
Josh (08:27.106)
Didn't get her A-Goal, but we got a huge PR for her. She beat her time in Berlin by four minutes and it was an eight minute New York City PR. really, really, really fun experience. And then, yeah, then it was just all about the recovery and the food and the trip home. Thank God we weren't leaving that night. I can't imagine people that were doing that, but we didn't leave until like eight or nine or 10 the next night and got home around midnight.
Another Triathlon Pod (08:33.191)
Wow.
Another Triathlon Pod (08:46.783)
no.
Josh (08:55.79)
We had a few things we had to take care of. As Fed knows, my wife's phone was stolen from where she was cheering. Fed and I, we had met up after the race. We got our race photos, wait till Fed shares his modeling photo that he took lying on the floor of the runner pop-up. I missed my opportunity to join him, but we took one together and then hopped in a cab and went up to Harlem and.
Another Triathlon Pod (09:01.928)
no.
Another Triathlon Pod (09:12.0)
I'm
Another Triathlon Pod (09:15.347)
Looking forward to it.
Fed (09:16.92)
Yeah, yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (09:21.182)
Josh (09:25.102)
caught a couple of our friends with Janine and then had an awesome dinner at a local spot and we're treated like locals. got offered a free round of drinks. So obviously I don't drink, Fed wasn't drinking. So we got a free round of Coke.
Fed (09:33.484)
yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (09:34.807)
always good.
Fed (09:36.805)
Yeah, yeah, that was... Okay, I do want to say though that when the guy was like, I want to... Because obviously we were talking about the marathon and we were all excited and the guy came up and he was like, yeah, wearing our medals. He was like, I want to buy you guys a drink. You guys are...
Another Triathlon Pod (09:40.422)
living it up.
Josh (09:41.102)
Little extra sugar, but
Josh (09:57.166)
We're wearing our medals.
Fed (10:03.362)
You guys are amazing and we're like, no, we don't drink, blah, blah. But then this guy was talking about the guy that was buying us drinks. He was talking. All of a sudden, the conversation went to key tones with the guy.
Another Triathlon Pod (10:17.623)
Of course it did.
Fed (10:18.884)
He was like, and then in the morning I took a ketone shot because it helps your body metabolizes like a gem better. And I was like, Josh, this guy probably has no idea what ketone is. that was fun. That was the nerd in us. Yeah, just talking about ketones at a bar.
Josh (10:32.504)
That was pretty.
Another Triathlon Pod (10:34.935)
Yeah.
Josh (10:37.336)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (10:37.751)
for me.
Josh (10:41.11)
Yeah, it was a, as we do, as we do. And then the day after I had signed up for a massage that a couple of friends of mine had hit up while they were there. And I was like, wow, that looks cool. I got my first ever robot massage from a escape. Yeah. So really, really cool. And then like some pulse, electric, electronic magnetic treatment too. feeling really good actually. and have a half marathon this weekend. So, well,
Another Triathlon Pod (10:41.463)
As you do, isn't.
Another Triathlon Pod (10:55.625)
Another Triathlon Pod (11:03.786)
Okay.
Another Triathlon Pod (11:08.299)
you know, just to shake out the legs a bit.
Josh (11:11.15)
We'll see what kind of pacing my coach gives me. We're going to stick to the plan and not overdo it. it's been, it was a really fun weekend, man. New York city is literally from the get. It's, it's just so cool. You're running over the bridge. There's helicopters flying low and all of a sudden you're like, man, we're in Brooklyn and you're flying and just so many people. And it was really, really awesome race. Hard to come down from that one. But.
I was just living it up and having fun and like all the pictures came through and it's like me just smiling or my hands are raising the roof or something. It was just a really cool way to run a race and so glad we did it. But now it's time to focus on Marbella and everything Jenna's got going on over there. I did see the Kona tan line is still a little bit.
Another Triathlon Pod (11:45.088)
It's...
Love it.
Fed (12:00.461)
Hahaha
Another Triathlon Pod (12:01.909)
It's alive and well. That burn was legit. That one's gonna stick around probably till next summer. Yeah, the pasty Canadian redhead, the no sunscreening cone had definitely left its mark. But yeah, I'm so stoked to be here in Marbella. I was feeling the FOMO, seeing you guys in New York without me all together. like, I wanna be in on that party. But this eases the pain a little bit, I'll say.
Josh (12:03.406)
you
Yeah, clearly.
Fed (12:09.41)
Hahaha
Josh (12:09.75)
You
Fed (12:26.944)
You're right.
Another Triathlon Pod (12:27.959)
It's been, it's been good. It's been kind of nonstop since getting in here as these weekends tend to be, but it started with the fun in my flight over from Frankfort to Malaga. Taylor Nip happened to be on my flight and I didn't notice it until we were getting off the flight. I saw her stand up there on the flight, so I felt it was familiar. So I was able to put it out there to try polo athlete, but hey, Taylor's here. So she's probably going to be racing, which was exciting to see for sure.
I think she was kind one of the last hold-ups we were waiting to see. And then we saw a couple of days later that Lucy Charles is in town. And actually as I was walking into the hotel here to start recording, I saw her coming in out of a man too. she's done some recon rides, checking it all out. And it looks like she's ready to fire as well. was actually Taylor Nip's dad kind of saved us from waiting around for luggage. There's this like weird thing at the airport where...
It'll show the carousel for your flight coming in. And I think this is messed with a ton of people. They're talking about it all on the Facebook chat, where if you fly in from, like I flew from Frankfurt, it shows you the carousel that your bags will be on for Frankfurt. But it turns out if your origin was outside of the EU, you have to go to a separate carousel. And they have the signs for all of that, like two carousels down from where you are for your flight. So no one's walking past their carousel.
see those signs. I'm standing around Taylor Nib and Miranda Carfrae who was super sweet too. And we're just like waiting, like it just kind of coming out and stuff and Taylor's dad went on an expedition to Tennessee and he found that it was over at the second carousel where you have to do like customs through there and saved a ton of time. I saw stories of people like waiting around for two hours at the baggage carousel because you wouldn't know and you'd never think to go wander around because it says here's your plate, where to pick up your bag. So yeah.
Fed (14:08.887)
Oof.
Another Triathlon Pod (14:17.975)
had my day start off much better because Taylor is stabbed. So I so appreciate that. I know he's a fan of the podcast. So shout out to him.
Josh (14:26.722)
Sounds like you're lucky that your luggage was actually there, because I know there's been some issues with bikes and things getting there too. So hopefully all those people get things situated today and are able to race this weekend.
Another Triathlon Pod (14:30.135)
It sounds like it, yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (14:38.55)
No, it's really good to see people getting their bikes that have been missed, have been showing up come the next day so far, but I know it's caused a lot of people a lot of stress. We've heard a lot about it actually down at the expo too, kind of people stressed and a few last minute shoppers picking up tri-suits because they're worried theirs aren't going to show up in time. So fingers crossed, they get all their kit. We just did the pro series panel there and was Regan Holyoke. Her bike still hasn't shown up either.
She's in the running for the pro series and she's crossing her fingers and toes that her bike shows up in time, which has to be so stressful as a pro athlete. That's a bit of money on the line too.
Josh (15:18.082)
Yeah, it's a little bit of a bigger race than normal. It sounded like they're like, everything's been set up for like a week to like the Ironman wasn't messing around and like Marbella, they had like the permits to just like, Hey, let's make this our, our, our spot for a whole week plus.
Another Triathlon Pod (15:21.591)
A little bit, just a tiny.
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (15:31.287)
And that's been the thing. It is so much bigger than any other event I've gone to with Iron Man. Like you should see the set up for transition is absolutely massive. The finish line is the biggest I've ever seen and they have just kind of taken over the beachfront there and it's been really, really cool. Like this is crazy. The stage is massive. They got a ton of like seating and doing a few events around the stage and the expo. The expo has actually been like full of people and have this more...
festival feel so people do want to hang out there and they've got stuff going on and Hoka has a great free coffee spot there so you get all your latte's and butt wipes and stuff. So people have actually been hanging out and just interacting there and I think that's a piece that Iron Man's kind of been missing in the past but they've really made a massive effort to make it somewhere you just want to kind of chill and hang out and like cruise and see what's going on so that's been a lot of fun to feel that energy a lot too.
Josh (16:28.194)
And you're getting to soak it all in too, because you're not racing. it's like, you're the person who's there actually wanting to soak it all in.
Fed (16:31.31)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (16:33.417)
to do all the fun stuff. That's it.
Fed (16:36.708)
Yeah, you don't have to worry about taking too many steps or making sure you're sitting down or laying down. You can just be running around enjoying and not worrying about anything.
Another Triathlon Pod (16:42.185)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (16:49.175)
Yeah. Well, I the first day there, I had 23,000 steps just kind of walking around and it go anywhere far. It's just constantly on the move there. It was really fun with the Mono team. had a team swim with one of our coaches, Chad, kind of got a run in the water and it just happened to be on the worst swim day so far here in Marbella. It was like crazy choppy and like three breakers in a row kind of thing before you got smooth water. So.
Fed (16:53.604)
Thanks
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (17:16.043)
A lot of athletes were kind of hesitant to get in, but they all did. So that's like worst possible case scenario and race day is going to be smooth and glassy and fine. So it's going to feel easy, but it was great to have coach Chad out there just kind of showing them how to run in and out to making sure everyone felt comfortable. And today we're going to be doing a team picture and then a little ride around. And they also did a little shakeout run yesterday too. So it's really fun. We've got 45 athletes racing with Ma and I. So there's definitely been a lot of catching up and just.
kind of hang out with the crew, lots of fun at the expo tent too, so everyone kind heads that as a home base. So it's gonna blast there. The other really cool
Josh (17:53.23)
No, no FOMO there with all the team pictures. I'm starting to see it The group is growing We did have a few I actually forgot to mention my boy My boy Logan and we had a few athletes that finished Ironman, Florida this week So we got a few new Ironman and the crew of Monaco But yeah, my boy Logan that was literally as I was falling asleep Saturday night before the race because I had to go to bed so early for my 5 430 wake up
Fed (17:58.671)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (18:09.173)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (18:17.664)
Okay.
Josh (18:19.842)
He was finishing Ironman Florida. So I get to pull it up and watch on the YouTube stream and all that. So I finally coached an Ironman athlete. So that feels good. There you go. Exactly.
Another Triathlon Pod (18:24.915)
awesome.
Another Triathlon Pod (18:29.395)
The first one is always memorable for sure. Finishing your first Ironman and coaching your first Ironman. Definitely makes difference. And yeah, kind of the other really cool thing out here is the recent real difference in kind of Ironman as a brand when it comes to listening to what people are saying and kind of getting feedback and being more open. And actually Ironman reached out to me to set up a bit of sit down chat with Scott Buru. And for, know, we're a growing podcast, but we're not one of the big media names or stuff.
Fed (18:34.254)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (18:58.487)
not any of the number one podcasts, so there's a few claiming that. But he took the time, took almost an hour to just sit down, answer any questions, and ask for some of my feedback, what we're hearing from the general Ironman audience and people who are involved in the sport, and really took the time to answer all the questions that I did have around the slot allocation and just the broadcast was another big thing. And I think when we do the post-race recap, I'll go into more of the stuff that he talked about there.
or else this is going to end up going on for a really long podcast and we've got the Pro Press Conference coming up soon. So don't want to miss that, but we'll dive into it a lot more. But really the messaging was really encouraging that they're reaching out and want to know what people are saying, want to know what concerns you're hearing and want to just openly answer any questions. Like it was really great to like, there was no kind of talking around the issue. It was just like, here's it, here's what we're looking at, here's what we want to do. They do.
think that there needs to make some adjustments need to be made to the overall performance pool. But yeah, I'll dive into a little bit more of that next week once we get through all of the excitement of this epic race weekend ahead. How about we dive into some of the coverage? I know I've been talking a bit about the energy down here, but we are going to see an absolutely incredible race this weekend. The first bit of the pros was, like I said, they had a panel going on about the pro series. And we're definitely seeing.
some big names that are ready and hungry. And as we go into the predictions, I'll go into some things I saw on stage there that might make us change some of our predictions at the same time too. But first, let's dive into it. Let's start off with the women's race we've got going on for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships. And first, I wanted to get your guys thoughts. I don't know if you looked at the Tribal Athlete updates. This women's field has been like decimated by time of year.
Josh (20:33.002)
insider information.
Fed (20:35.458)
Another Triathlon Pod (20:52.649)
And I think Kona, what did you guys think kind of looking at that? think there's 40 women not starting that qualified.
Josh (20:59.318)
Yeah, there's a lot of red on the tripole post. She's done a great job of keeping everyone updated as she normally does. obviously Jenna with the assist on the Taylor nib blue dot as, but it's, it's, it's impressive, but at the same time, so close to Kona and you kind of expected a lot of the Kona athletes not to be there or not be fit, but it's not just the Kona athletes not showing up, but.
Another Triathlon Pod (21:01.61)
Thank
Mm-hmm.
Another Triathlon Pod (21:11.733)
That's
Another Triathlon Pod (21:18.679)
Thank you.
Josh (21:28.334)
Jackie Herring is probably one of the bigger names that's not there, unfortunately. 73, 70.3 is not her jam, but I know the pro series is. So was a little kind of sad not to see her there. Alice Alberts is not there. She's been in the top of the pro series for a couple of years now. And yeah, the Elle's Visser, she races everything. Chelsea's not there. But Taylor and Lucy are. So we'll see.
Another Triathlon Pod (21:28.801)
Mm-hmm.
Another Triathlon Pod (21:51.703)
Yeah.
Josh (21:57.025)
What Taylor and Lucy are there? I think that's probably some of the biggest talk around the female races. Can they actually get around without blowing up and having some impacts or the effects of the heat strokes play into this race?
Another Triathlon Pod (22:02.679)
Thank you.
Fed (22:13.026)
Yeah, definitely. also would something that's really wild is everybody's talking about Taylor, Lucy, Paula, and but very few people are talking about Solvee. mean, this is
Another Triathlon Pod (22:26.165)
Yeah, surprisingly.
Fed (22:28.004)
This is our Ironman champion and everybody seems to be forgetting her. They're like, okay, yeah, she's an Ironman athlete over the 70.3. She has no chance. This is all about Taylor and Kat and Lucy and you know, the regulars, I don't know. Writing that world champion seat has a special magic and a lot of athletes that are there tend to perform really well. And I'm excited to see what Solvee brings.
over this distance. yeah, what Josh was mentioning, the heatstroke thing, physiologically, it takes a bit of time to recover from that, especially all the metabolic stuff and mentally as well. And also,
Another Triathlon Pod (23:11.383)
Yeah.
Fed (23:20.128)
It is well known that once you've had a heatstroke, it's more common that you may have another one. So, I mean, Marvella, it's a hot race, but it's not going to be Kona. So hopefully for Lusi and Taylor, they will be able to move past that.
Another Triathlon Pod (23:27.252)
Thanks.
Fed (23:46.116)
we're going to see a different race from them. I'm pretty sure about that.
Another Triathlon Pod (23:51.287)
Yeah, so conditions on ground. Yeah.
Josh (23:51.321)
How are we looking for the race? That's what I was going to add. Like the conditions, like, is it like, it sounds like it's going to be a wetsuit swim and what else we got.
Another Triathlon Pod (23:59.073)
Definitely wetsuit swim. It's actually kind of chilly. Like in the mornings, it's looking 12, 13 degrees and then the temps, the highs are kind of 1920, which Fahrenheit looks like mid fifties to high sixties kind of thing. So it's definitely not going to be hot, hot. You're going to feel the heat a little bit climbing, but it's really just ideal conditions for a fast day, especially because they're going to be done before it really heats up. Like probably by the time they're done.
It might hit like low to mid 60s. So not a crazy hot day there. So I don't think heat is going to be a factor so much as the mental and physical impacts of going that deep and getting that heat stroke, because that is something that can take quite a while to recover from. Unfortunately, I know personally being the Hasty Redhead Canadian going to some hot places, but it's something that takes a little bit of recovery time. So I'm really curious to see how they back it up.
Let's start through it. So I'll give you some of the top names kind of racing according to Torsten Radd's ratings. We've got obviously Taylor Nibb, Lucy Charles are always going to be some of the favorites. We don't know what they're going to look like. We've got Cat Matthews, Paula Finley, Jess Lermont, Tanya Newbert, Laura Phillip is out. That was another surprising one. Jenny Arnold, Georgia Taylor Brown, Salt Lake Loveseph, India Lee, Carolyn Pohl, Ellie Salthouse, Beck, Marjoleine Pierre, Hannah DeBette.
and then it goes down the list from there. we definitely have a, it feels like it's a very kind of top heavy race, but I think because it's so close to Kona, we don't know how those top people are gonna be affected or how they're actually gonna come good. It could be, I can totally see a podium where we have a couple new names that we wouldn't expect out there. Who are you guys kind of looking at here for this race?
Josh (25:48.844)
boy, we're going into predictions already.
Another Triathlon Pod (25:51.083)
We won't do predictions, but let's talk around a couple of the athletes in here. So obviously, know, Lucy and Taylor, question marks because of the heat training. What if we think about someone like Kat Matthews kind of backing it up after a killer run performance in Kona?
Josh (25:57.976)
then.
Josh (26:05.752)
I think she's, she, I think she's there for the podium and, like her, it'll be interesting to see if there's any dynamics between her and Sylvie. Cause they're, they're probably going to be pretty close to each other. Though Sylvie is probably going to be off the front a little bit more than Kat. but with the wetsuit swim, maybe Kat does hang on with the swimmers a little bit more and we've seen her have some good swims. So I think Kona was just a bad day in the water. and if, if she's near the lead bikers, then.
Another Triathlon Pod (26:21.611)
Mm-hmm.
Another Triathlon Pod (26:26.837)
I think so, yeah.
Josh (26:35.022)
Maybe her and Sylvie can hook up and, that's really all that matters to Kat is what is Sylvie doing when it comes to the $200,000 at the, at the end of the weekend. So, um, that's her number one. think Kat's going to have a good race. just don't know if she factors in for the win. Um, but if she gets off the bike with anyone within five minutes, she's got a shot of running them down. So that would be my guess there.
Another Triathlon Pod (26:42.167)
Thank
Another Triathlon Pod (27:00.023)
Mm-hmm.
Josh (27:01.752)
There is no Laura Phillip, which was a surprise DNF or DNS as well. But yeah, I just think that like Fed said, Solve is the one to watch here. all know it's interesting because this would be Taylor and Lucy again all over if we didn't have what happened in Conan. think this
Another Triathlon Pod (27:05.867)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (27:23.927)
100 % F.
Josh (27:25.07)
This course, especially with Taylor nib, like this would be a Taylor nib maybe win by 10 minute type race. If, if because of the climbing on the bike and she would just absolutely send it up the mountain and, and then get to the descent and, get come in a T2 with a 15, 12 minute lead. Like it's insane what she possibly could have done. We might still see it. I just don't know how long.
Another Triathlon Pod (27:35.35)
Okay.
Another Triathlon Pod (27:50.551)
again.
Josh (27:52.353)
she will be able to hold on with that energy expenditure that's still playing a factor. But she's Taylor Nib and you can never doubt her.
Fed (28:00.867)
Yeah, also, I'm very excited to see Georgia Taylor Brown's race. I think it's going to be exciting. Yeah, it's, she definitely has a pedigree to win a race of this caliber. But I am excited to see her at a world stage, what she can do and see how the dynamics play because
Josh (28:05.4)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (28:05.963)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (28:21.313)
Mm-hmm.
Fed (28:25.54)
On the run, I believe she's one of the fastest runners and I think she can go toe to toe with the likes of Kat Matthews, Lucy, and it's going to be exciting, especially after the swim because we know she's going to be swimming on the front pack.
That's going to be, that's a given for her. It's just, it's going to come down to the bike. If she can hold onto the group. She's a strong biker, like in her short course days, she was oftentimes the one pulling the group or bridging the gaps. And, but we'll see if that translates to 70.3. And if she does that and has a steel, the wrong legs to, to, to deliver a solid race, watch out because she could be, she could be on the podium as well.
Josh (29:15.672)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (29:15.755)
See, always thought Georgia Taylor Brown would be kind of better within the 70.3 distance. Like she's an incredible athlete and we've seen over the years what she's done at like Super Try and WTCS, but it just doesn't seem like this year she's really been firing. It seems like she had some fun doing all sorts of different distances and events and kind of ran the gambit. I just can't see her quite being a guest dialed in for this race to compete at that level. Although I'd love to see it because she's always an entertaining personality in the sport.
Josh (29:42.319)
It'll be, mean, the, the one, the one caveat there is she raced like seven weeks in a row at one point this season too. So she hasn't been tapered or had a block for a race literally all season. Like she was riding gravel and then all of a sudden she's at super dry. And then all of sudden she's at T 100. Like she hasn't had a chance to prepare for a race all year. don't think.
Another Triathlon Pod (29:48.278)
Mm-hmm.
Another Triathlon Pod (29:51.937)
True.
Another Triathlon Pod (30:04.321)
Okay.
Josh (30:04.558)
So this is the one opportunity where she's had a little bit of a block and to get specific for this and then the rest of the T 100. maybe, maybe we do see the, uh, the elite level GTB. And, uh, I think she, like I said, she could factor into this, um, for sure.
Another Triathlon Pod (30:17.131)
Mm-hmm.
Another Triathlon Pod (30:21.685)
I'd love to see it. Yeah. And then we have here also, so I got to give a shout out Paula Finley. We know that she's kind of a weapon on the bike and she's just been in a good head space in a winning form the last little while, which is awesome to see because a happy Paula just can do absolutely incredible things. And she definitely dominated more of the North American race, North American 70.3 races this year. And we haven't seen that same result at the world championship levels, but.
this bike horse throw a bike or a hard bike in there and I think she's definitely gonna be up there with the best when it comes to those bike splits. What do you guys think?
Josh (30:57.272)
I think it's a good shout. again, she's another one similar to Kat, like her swim has been her like piece of her racing that's been down this year. I mean, that swim background isn't there anymore. And she's not the lead pack or even on the feet of the lead pack. She's, she struggled in some of some big races now she's still pulled through with a win in some of these races where she's had bad swims.
Another Triathlon Pod (31:10.848)
I believe.
Another Triathlon Pod (31:24.471)
Mm-hmm.
Josh (31:26.614)
because of the bike and then having a pretty solid run to hold on to the lead. She's not somebody with a run that can run through the field though. And she would have to have the lead coming off the bike if she was going to win this race and, or even to podium, she's not going to really run from six, seventh, eighth ups. She needs to be in the top three in order to be in the podium would be my guess. Just with the level of running that we have at this race and the swim bikers ahead of her.
Another Triathlon Pod (31:39.681)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (31:53.737)
Yeah, absolutely. And speaking of the swim bikers, we have someone like a Jess Lermont. She's going to be in this race and you know, she'll be front pack out of that swim one of the first few and she's got a killer bike split when she's on her best day there. But we've seen kind of that run falter, but she's someone you could definitely see coming on the front and staying in front. Do you guys think that she's someone that could stay with like a tailored nip if she's on a good day and stick with her on the bike?
Fed (32:18.34)
That's a tough ask but I think I think on the day maybe with a big Question mark there not not that she couldn't hold on to the bike but that what her round legs would look like after
Another Triathlon Pod (32:32.671)
Yeah.
Fed (32:33.528)
holding on to Taylor's will. yeah, I mean, it's just, I mean, if Taylor brings her A game on the bike, I don't think there's a lot of people that can stick with her and still run a decent half marathon after it.
Another Triathlon Pod (32:46.647)
Thank
Yeah, definitely. And we're just talking about Solvang here and it's funny on Tri-Rating, he has her down in like 11th place there because she just hasn't had those performances at the 70.3 races. He goes off of past ratings and results and obviously she's had a big leap in kind of performance and consistency here. So do you guys think she'll beat her Torsten Radd rating number?
Josh (33:04.814)
Yeah.
Josh (33:13.454)
Uh, yeah. Cause I keep trying to find her and I'm like, wait, where's she doing? Uh, and, and then he's got her, got her running a one 21 half, which, I would imagine she's going to be sub one 20 easily. Um, just given what some of the other girls are, are predicted to do as well. And yeah, we all saw her run was just steady and we saw it with the guys that their Norwegians have that, that capability.
Another Triathlon Pod (33:16.553)
Right? Scrolling down.
Fed (33:17.484)
Yeah
Another Triathlon Pod (33:27.082)
Mm-hmm.
Another Triathlon Pod (33:36.491)
Yep.
Josh (33:41.101)
I don't know if she's been in altitude like they have. know the boys just came down this week, like yesterday. So if she's been up at altitude and they timed it right, then she's in for another one. And I just don't know how we ride her off. Now, again, this is a different bike course. we've got some.
lighter bikers with a ton of Watts that are going to feature on, on the, on the bike ride. And although the, the descent is not technical, the ride up is a little bit technical and that that climb is pretty, steep and pretty long. So that's where your, your Paul is and your Taylor nibs really kind of play into this and maybe set the tone. Again, I think if Paula has a good swim, then that could change the
Another Triathlon Pod (34:23.553)
Mm-hmm.
Josh (34:32.238)
who goes, but it's so hard to see anyone be with Taylor after she goes past Lucy.
Fed (34:37.09)
I agree.
Another Triathlon Pod (34:39.031)
Yeah. And especially with Solveig, it's kind of a question of mark because this is her first time winning a world championship event, right? And that the amount of emotional and mental kind of stuff that comes after that, just the time spent doing all the interviews, talking to potential new sponsors and just being overwhelmed with that. It's been a number of times I've heard feedback of athletes just kind of, that is so draining that that almost increases the recovery time. you're on this high.
Josh (34:55.566)
yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (35:06.763)
which can definitely, it goes one of two ways. Either that high takes you through to the next race and you have a great one, or it's so much mental and emotional stuff afterwards that you can't quite perk up again, right?
Fed (35:17.636)
Totally, but also like adding to your point Jenna, yes to all of that, but I think a lot of people are writing Solvee off this early, especially being in a region, I know how those guys are wired and she definitely has some fire in her belly like just wait until race day. I'm the Kona world champion and I can race a 70.3 as well. So I think...
Another Triathlon Pod (35:32.279)
That's it.
Another Triathlon Pod (35:38.347)
Mm-hmm.
Fed (35:45.092)
I think she's gonna come top 5 no matter what and so top 5 or better for Solvee.
Another Triathlon Pod (35:53.571)
Yeah, for sure. Yeah, let's break out some of the predicted times for the swim in here. So we know we're going to have a front pack of swimmers. And like you mentioned, Josh, we might see more people tacking onto that crew because it is a wetsuit swim. And that kind of lessens the difference between the really good swimmers and the not so great swimmers, even though they're all pros, they're all crazy good swimmers. But at the front with Torsten's ratings, we have like Taylor Nibb, Lucy Charles, Jess Learmont, Jenner Arnold.
and then Georgia Taylor Brown will be far off that India lead, Caroline Pol and Ellie Falkhouse are kind of 30 seconds to a minute back from the Fast Fast Women. So we can have a pretty solid group of like 10 women at least coming out, like a pretty solid chance of them all coming out together, which Lucy Charles doesn't usually have a ton of company coming off. In the T100, we've seen other people around her a little bit more, but I think we'll have a fairly big bike.
a fairly big group going out on the bike together. What do you guys think?
Josh (36:54.902)
Yeah, I agree with you. think there will be the two or three of them up upfront with Jess and Lucy and maybe Jennifer, like you said, and Taylor shortly off the back of that with Taylor probably leading that chase pack. we all know Taylor's going to get caught in T1. mean, she's going to be there playing around with her socks, taking her...
Another Triathlon Pod (37:10.775)
comments.
Another Triathlon Pod (37:18.583)
Gotta put on our socks. This time I think it's definitely worth the socks because it's gonna be like 10, 12 degrees in the morning. You definitely want socks on that bike course or else you will not feel your toes until halfway through that run.
Josh (37:32.077)
Yeah, just for the warmth factor. So then that'll make her T2 a little better. But she does tend to take her time. We all know, mean, Oceanside, she's like always the slowest one. And as you're saying, a colder swim race that's very similar, then she's going to take her time. I would imagine Taylor's probably going to be riding through some people when it comes to the beginning of coming out of T2 and then right up to the chase pack.
Another Triathlon Pod (37:48.468)
Mm-hmm.
Another Triathlon Pod (37:56.3)
Yeah.
Josh (38:01.091)
Can she catch Lucy and Jess Lermoth and how long does it take? My guess is shortly up that climb, she'll make an impact and she'll probably send it right early in that. And then mentally try and put the hammer down by pushing away from them earlier on the climb and getting out of sight. And then they just don't know where she is. And then they're trying to limit damage. we might get some blowups on the female side. I think the big talk is on the men's side, you're going to have a
It's going to be like carnage. They're just going to, totally over bike on the female side. You don't always see it as often. but with Taylor, if Taylor gets away, we might, we might actually see some, some good carnage on the female side too.
Another Triathlon Pod (38:32.407)
Thanks.
Fed (38:32.452)
Yes.
Another Triathlon Pod (38:36.023)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (38:45.879)
And yeah, with Taylor, like she's won this race three times now, right? And no one's won it four times. So this could potentially be another historic win if she does manage to pull through and win it again, which would be very, very cool to see. And it's funny looking at the bike times. It's like Taylor Nibb is predicted to be almost five minutes faster than anyone. And there's barely any other people highlighted because she's so much faster. makes that percentage like unobtainable. So we got like Lucy Charles-Barclay and Jess Lermonther kind of the next few rounds.
Fed (39:08.185)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (39:15.223)
We saw Kat Matthews, she said she didn't have a great bike in Kona either, so we potentially see some better bike times from her. And then on the run, we basically have the front runners in the top. It's basically, Torsten's pretty much predicting it's going to be a run race in there once they get off the bike. It's going to be pretty close with Taylor Nib, Lucy Charles, Kat Matthews. Well, did have Laura Phillips, but she's out. So we've got some seriously fast runners. So if the bikers even have a chance, they need to do some damage.
But it's funny on his predictions, he basically has Taylor, Nib, like across the board, fast wind, fast bike, and then a run right there or thereabouts. So the interest in the sea, its history kind of plays out again. that data comes through because we really don't know if Taylor Nib.
Fed (40:02.082)
Yeah, I would
Josh (40:02.743)
Can she go sub four? It looks like is one of the questions that Thorsten has too.
Another Triathlon Pod (40:06.495)
Yeah, be a really big one.
Fed (40:08.898)
Yeah, I was going to say that if Taylor has this dominant performance, we are not going to see a super fast run. So I'm kind of hoping that somebody hangs with her so that we can see her running to her full potential and see how fast she can actually push the run and prop potentially goes up four. That'll be amazing.
Another Triathlon Pod (40:20.023)
to do.
Another Triathlon Pod (40:36.279)
And on the pro series it's kind of interesting so Ironman was great and did this kind of breakdown of what it takes to win. Obviously Kat Matthews right now is the front-leader in the pro series but there is a chance for Solvayg to take it. What would have to happen is Solvayg would have to, so Kat would have to finish less than six minutes and 40 seconds. Yeah, so she's got almost seven minutes. Yeah, six minutes 40 seconds behind Solvayg.
Josh (40:58.954)
It's like almost seven minutes behind, Solvee.
Another Triathlon Pod (41:04.791)
And for Solveig to take it, she has to finish within a minute 40 of the winner, but also six minutes and 40 seconds ahead of Kat Matthews. So.
Josh (41:13.826)
Yeah. So she's got to finish second or third most likely and be way ahead of Kat.
Another Triathlon Pod (41:17.783)
640 ahead. Which is... That's a pretty big ask when it comes to Kat Matthews especially, because we've seen how consistent she is. Yeah. So there'd have to be some carnage for that to happen, but there is a pathway. I don't really think that'll be a thing, but we'll definitely be watching it. It's kind of fun to have that sub story outside of Lynn of the Iron Man Pro series too.
Fed (41:20.908)
and hope for a blow up to come.
Josh (41:27.118)
in a 70.3.
Fed (41:29.379)
Yeah.
Josh (41:44.823)
It'd be interesting to see how cat plays it too, right? Cause like cat could just like, slope soft pedal the bike air quotes. and then get home with her run and, and not even concerning about actually winning the pro series or how much is she going to full send this to, actually try and win a 17.3 worlds, which he hasn't done yet.
Another Triathlon Pod (41:47.788)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (42:10.391)
Yeah, and I will say it can't solve a wrong the pro series panel in there. And cat just seems to be like bubbly happy, just kind of happy to be there. Apparently she took a fair bit of downtime after Kona and they partied it up to a good time. So she seems to really good headspace. And solid just seems hungry for it. Like she's like, Yeah, no, that was great. But I'm still like hungry for this win. So it was interesting to get a little insight into where their head is at going into this.
Fed (42:25.07)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (42:40.927)
Okay, I think it's time for those predictions guys. Who do we think is going to be on the podium at the 70.3 World Championships? Any volunteers to go first?
Fed (42:51.556)
I'll go first. I'm gonna go, I'm gonna pick Taylor for the win obviously. So I'm gonna go Taylor, Kat, Solvee.
Another Triathlon Pod (42:53.78)
You'll regret it.
Another Triathlon Pod (43:05.255)
Okay, I like it. How about you Josh? Are you gonna make your Notre Dame predictions like you did for the Women's Ironman World Championships?
Josh (43:09.646)
A little more difficult than the 70.3 worlds. I will go a little different than Fed just because it's a lot more fun when we have some different predictions. So I will go.
Another Triathlon Pod (43:22.314)
Is it?
Josh (43:29.516)
Man, to take Taylor off the win is really, really difficult. So you know what? Then I am going to go crazy. We're going to go GTB. We're going to go GTB for the win.
Another Triathlon Pod (43:32.033)
I know, right?
Fed (43:36.798)
okay.
Another Triathlon Pod (43:38.87)
Josh (43:48.91)
and cat in third.
Another Triathlon Pod (43:52.555)
Okay, I like it. Okay, I'm gonna go with the heart on this one. I'm gonna go Paula Finlay for the win. We need a Canadian champion here. Followed by Cat Matthews and then Salvi. I think that'll, yeah, we'll be good there. They're gonna be battling out and kind of watching each other for the race, I think.
Fed (44:00.121)
There we go.
Fed (44:06.535)
Josh (44:08.792)
I liked it.
Josh (44:12.566)
I think, I think Paula plays a factor into this. It's a good one. I almost put her on the podium. if she has that swim, that's going to be a huge day for her.
Another Triathlon Pod (44:17.644)
Thanks.
Another Triathlon Pod (44:21.783)
Love to see it. Just seems in a good headspace and I think that makes a big difference there. Okay, let's jump into the men's side of things. There is...oh man. I will say this one it seems like it's a little bit deeper and more kind of unpredictable but we really don't know what will happen in the women's either. Let's take a look at some of the top names here according to Torsten Radt who he thinks is going to be within this top rankings. We got Yellagene's, previous world champion, Rico Bogan, Jamie Riddle, Miguel Hidalgo, Magnus Dutler.
Josh (44:24.91)
Yep.
Another Triathlon Pod (44:50.871)
Mathias Margier, Sam Long is out, got Christian Blumfeld, Pettigodius Pettidose, Jonas Schomburg, Taylor Reid, Gustav Eden, Kaspers Dornas, Jason West, it's a movie. We got all the names here. Like this list goes on and on and on and you can't really, there's probably 20 that could be within that top five. Oh my goodness. So what do you think? Let's click through a few of these here. We got Yellow Gaines, the returning world champion.
We haven't seen the same level of racing from him the last little bit. What do you guys think? His thoughts are here on course.
Josh (45:28.601)
I'm looking at these ratings too. It's insane. Like Casper's 18th. We were talking about Solvee being down, right? And it's like, wait, where are the Norwegians? Like 8th, 15th and 18th. Yeah. It's without Hayden being in this field or Sam Lado in this field, it really has become the Yellow Gains show.
Another Triathlon Pod (45:33.399)
I know, right? Again, that's the funny part. Yeah.
Fed (45:40.59)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (45:42.103)
Yeah.
Josh (45:58.187)
And how long can a Jamie Riddle hang on? cause we know he's going to be upfront and pushing the pack. think Jamie might have some company on the, on the swim too. Cause you got somebody like Mark Dubrik back that nobody knows what kind of Dubrik is going to be showing up either, but he impacts races when he's, when he's there and, that no matter what his injury, the foot injury was. He can swim and he's been swimming. So.
Another Triathlon Pod (46:01.612)
Okay.
Another Triathlon Pod (46:12.651)
in.
Josh (46:25.614)
Jamie will have some, somebody's maybe Mark Dubrick found his way into the WhatsApp chat.
Another Triathlon Pod (46:30.871)
I wonder what this one's named. Don't burn yourselves out.
Fed (46:31.138)
Hahaha
Josh (46:33.514)
Yeah, right. No, no, no jelly, no jelly or something like that.
Fed (46:35.416)
Yeah.
Fed (46:39.694)
Hahaha
Another Triathlon Pod (46:40.437)
There we go. You know, you're going to see someone like a Jamie Riddle and a Jonas Schomburg like going hard off the front of the bike and just going full send. And that makes it so much fun to watch these races because I think with this field and this course, it's one of those things, it's either going to be crazy enough to go work like a breakaway early in the Tour de France, or they're going to spectacularly explode and they might pull some other people along with them to get to the front too.
Fed (47:07.032)
Yeah, I'm excited to see what the German boys bring to the table, especially in the bike, like the likes of Jonas, Rico. And if you throw in the mix a Jackson Laundrie on a good day, who can actually bike? And Magnus, like...
Another Triathlon Pod (47:12.267)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (47:16.3)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (47:22.049)
Yeah, he's been training with the Norwegians.
Fed (47:25.804)
Yeah, like imagine Magnus, Jonas, Rico on the bike trying to catch up within the regions. There's going to be fireworks on the bike and we're going to see some massive blowups of people trying to catch up with them on the run.
Josh (47:26.082)
Yeah
Another Triathlon Pod (47:31.796)
off.
Another Triathlon Pod (47:41.215)
No, absolutely. And a few of those, they'll just be a wave, right? Like that. So we're looking at some of the top swim times. We're looking at Rico Bogan, Miguel Fidelgo, Patagonia Spiridous, Jonas Schomburg, William Hirsch, Casper Storms, Vincent Louis. There's a ton Max Stately, Andrew Newt. Like, this is crazy. That is going be a massive, like the swim times.
Josh (47:54.958)
There's a lot of them. There's like 18 in that front pack.
Fed (47:59.097)
Christian Hagenhout.
Fed (48:03.268)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (48:06.615)
It's funny, you look on the women's side, we have a lot more spread out swim times. The swim times on the men's predictions, it's like 75 % of the field is predicted to be near the top of the field. So we could have like 40 guys coming out of the water pretty close to each other. Can you imagine the chaos and transition there? Like you want to swim fast just so don't get caught up in that.
Josh (48:12.355)
Yeah.
right there.
Fed (48:20.793)
Yeah.
Fed (48:28.002)
Yeah, crazy. Although I would say this, I think the super fast runners who don't bike as well are going to be out of the picture like from the get-go. I don't see, I don't see Amigeli Dalgo factoring in even though he's one of the better runners and probably, probably has the fastest standalone 5k out of everyone.
Josh (48:28.312)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (48:39.479)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (48:47.211)
Mm-hmm.
Fed (48:54.294)
I just don't see how he can catch up or keep up with the horsepower on the bike from some of these boys. I don't believe the race is going to be one on the bike, like on the later stages of the bike, and the ones who can manage to have fresher legs after a super hard bike are going to be the ones coming on top.
Another Triathlon Pod (49:03.457)
Thank you.
Fed (49:22.66)
So yeah, it's going to be, I think it's going to be either you hold on or you blow up on the first 5k.
Josh (49:22.774)
Oops.
Another Triathlon Pod (49:23.242)
next.
Josh (49:31.022)
There's, so I just, I just counted to there's, there's the top 31 ranked athletes on tri rating are all sub 24 swimmers. Like it's until you get to Jackson laundry, do you go over 24? Like all of them. that's, mean, so 22 to 24 minutes you're you've got 31 athletes. And then there's some more others that are going to come in after that. So it's like, that's nuts.
Another Triathlon Pod (49:31.423)
Yeah, I can't see the face of my computer.
Fed (49:43.332)
Yeah
Another Triathlon Pod (49:48.811)
my goodness.
Another Triathlon Pod (49:55.767)
unreal. Yeah and like I said they might stick together even more just because it is that wetsuit swim so although if the water is choppy like it was yesterday when we did the practice swim that's gonna break it up a lot more but for all the predictions it's looking like it's gonna be calm and if that's the case it is gonna be carnage in 2-1.
Josh (50:18.638)
Yeah, somebody like a Magnus can hang on in a race like this and yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (50:24.157)
for sure. We haven't seen much from Magnus in the last little while here. He's definitely been a lot more quiet. Is this the race where we're going to see some that winning form and back to biking domination?
Josh (50:37.452)
Man, these guys are going to absolutely throw down some crazy Watts on the bike. It's I think I was hearing numbers. Yeah. Like Rico's been like throwing down like, let's just go do the entire 80 90 K at 400 Watts.
Another Triathlon Pod (50:41.196)
It's gonna be insane. Those will be the power files that you want to see.
Fed (50:52.674)
Yeah, yeah, probably.
Another Triathlon Pod (50:55.125)
Unreal. I think he's going to be hard to pass up in this just because he does have that bike strength. It's so extreme. Like he's going to lose time on the run, but if people try to hang with him or he can really get that, like he can get that bike on or gap on the bike and no one would be surprised. But if you look at it. Yeah, so he's predicted to be about five minutes behind some of the fastest runners, like the yellow games kind of thing. But I could definitely see Ruko.
Josh (51:11.18)
Yeah, it's just man if you figure out the run
Another Triathlon Pod (51:23.787)
on the podium just with that bike strength.
Fed (51:25.902)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (51:27.863)
Okay, then we got the likes of someone like a Jamie Riddle who's definitely been making more waves than here. know, like I said, him and Jørgen Schellberger are going to go hard off the front and try to hang on and see if they can extend it. did he do, I think he did a challenge, was it a challenge race recently? So he might have some fatigue in the legs there. That's again, a tough turnaround as we're seeing from iron distance to 70.3. And who else here? So the big questions, the Norwegians.
Are we gonna see another Norwegian? One, two, three, yes or no? What do you guys think?
Josh (52:02.472)
Not according to Thorsten, I mean, why, why, why wouldn't we? it's really the question is the same thing we said with Solvei. Like why is she not being factored into this? And I think these days, the, mean, these guys are riding so hard and running so hard at the iron distance at the full distance.
Another Triathlon Pod (52:04.491)
Ha
Josh (52:25.656)
There's not much of a difference in the 70.3 and, when the swim and they're all there, it, it, now you, now you get into the, racing. If these guys are close coming off the bike, there's only one person that can outrun them and that's yellow. And, and like the three of them can, can be the top three run splits behind yellow too. So maybe Jason West, but we don't know. really expect him to impact this on the bike. So.
Fed (52:39.417)
Yeah.
Josh (52:53.806)
I say, not? And in a 70.3 and we know that they can bike run after a hard bike. And yeah, I mean, there's a very good chance. I, man, you know, they want it. They, and, and, and they have been training at altitude. Did they time it right? Did they overdo it? think the big question in Kona was did Christian overcook it? I don't think he overcooked it. He just didn't pace that run correctly.
Another Triathlon Pod (53:01.719)
Thank you.
Fed (53:07.554)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (53:13.271)
Thank
Josh (53:21.454)
or sorry, and, nice, but it's, and he probably did over bike a little bit, but that would, they're not, there, there isn't going to be those same dynamics in this race that we saw in Nice where the break, the bike was broken up and there were packs catching and, chasing and. Here on this climb, they're all going to be together and like, do they let Rico go? That'll be the question. And then how does that impact it? But they're going to over bike.
but there is that descent too. So there's gonna be the refreshing of the legs coming in for a half marathon.
Another Triathlon Pod (53:59.905)
Hi, Gifere. Yes or no Norwegian podium.
Fed (54:03.501)
Why not?
Josh (54:05.122)
Ha ha ha ha ha ha.
Fed (54:06.666)
I mean, at this point I'm not surprised about anything those boys can do and I think it'll be a cool story to tell that they swapped the podium at the Ironman World Champs and then at the 70.3 World Champs that would be epic.
Like Josh was mentioning, I think the guy that can break up that podium, it's Yelly. And if he has the wrong legs, if he comes running with them and if he has a good day, I don't see them being able to keep up with him. But other than that, yeah, why not?
Another Triathlon Pod (54:50.903)
I'm gonna go against the grain and I don't think so. Saw them at the pro series up on stage there and they seemed tired. Gustafi came straight out and said it. He's like, I'm tired. I got sick afterwards. I just haven't been able to get into the training and stuff. Gustafi never completely know. And then Kristen kind of chimes in with.
Fed (54:54.296)
Yeah
Another Triathlon Pod (55:14.967)
Me and Casper wanted to go down to the beach and spend two weeks in Marbella, but Gustav said we have to go up to like and stuff and get that training in. the just, overall vibe, they didn't have that same swagger or vibe they had going into Nice. They all just seem a little tired. Although you never know what they're to pull out race day. But Gustav especially doesn't seem to be backing himself in that. So we'll see, maybe a little freshen up a bit with a few days down.
Josh (55:33.006)
there.
Another Triathlon Pod (55:44.528)
level after that training in altitude, but yeah, they seem just a little low.
Josh (55:47.107)
Like in Gustav needs to have a good day to make, make some pro series money too, right? Like his standings could probably be the one that's the most impacted. think Christian and Casper are pretty well set up there, but Gustav could go anywhere from three down to probably 10. I don't know the numbers exactly, but I think he does have some, some money to be made here.
Another Triathlon Pod (55:52.15)
Thank you.
Another Triathlon Pod (55:56.683)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (56:04.168)
Good.
Another Triathlon Pod (56:09.431)
Yeah, and Christian is talking a bit about that, how like they're all going to this race because they're all in running for the pro series and they're all the ones that can knock each other off of the pro series rankings. So they all have to go or else it's like mutual destruction if only two of them go kind of thing. So it's definitely interesting to see how that has been a motivator for them to come out to this. And they had some predictions here on what it would look like for each of them to win.
Josh (56:18.413)
Ha!
Josh (56:25.026)
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Fed (56:25.924)
Yeah
Another Triathlon Pod (56:39.319)
this series. So for Kristen Blumenfeld, if he finishes within 12 minutes of the winner or Stornos is outside of 739 of the winner, he takes the pro series ranking. unless he has a shocker of a day, there's pretty good odds. Yeah, it'd have to be something just crazy for him to not win the pro series. And then for Kesper Storms to win it, he would have to be, he would have to finish within 739 of the winner.
Josh (56:57.25)
mechanical.
Another Triathlon Pod (57:09.735)
or beat Blumenfeld by more than 12 minutes. you can definitely, the question is, not really, I'd say the question is if Blumenfeld will take it so that he kind of makes sure he gets that overall Pro Series ranking, but you know, he's just going to go full send and race race it. There's no way in there.
Josh (57:24.714)
No, yeah. Can they finish on the podium in the pro series is probably the biggest question.
Another Triathlon Pod (57:32.439)
Yeah, I think that one's a lot more assured, we'll say, than the 78.3 world champs voting because they, Christian's had such an epic season that he's definitely cemented himself at the top and the boys aren't that far behind either. So we'll see. Let's take a look at the pro series rankings. We have right now Christian Green felt with 20,000 points. Casper Storn is right behind at 19, Gustav Iden at 18,000. Then we got Leon Chevalier.
Jonas Hoffman, Christian Hogan-Halves, Matthew Mark-Lars, and Nick Thompson, kind of coming from behind there.
Josh (58:07.704)
So Hogan Hogg is the only one that can really play a factor in that.
Another Triathlon Pod (58:11.351)
And the interesting part, it seems like he had a baby not too long ago with his partner and if you're not following his social media, his Instagram is very entertaining. He puts all the training stats out there. With the signs, yeah. He's done well with those. But it sounds like he's been putting in some solid bite time, but that's a hard transition having a newborn in the house. To be able to put in pre-performance, what do you guys think there?
Fed (58:23.172)
with the science? Yeah.
Josh (58:34.956)
Yeah
Josh (58:40.152)
Superdad power. think he'll, he, he's, he's got to, he's got to buy those diapers, right? He's got a chance to make a good check at the end of this race. with a, with a pretty decent day, it doesn't have to have a great day, but a pretty decent day. And he makes a pretty big check at the end of the, at the end of the season. So yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing how he does. had a, mean, it was awesome having him on the show this year and, and definitely with the signs. We didn't even talk about the signs on the course during the New York city marathon, but holy cow.
Another Triathlon Pod (58:41.919)
It goes one of two ways.
Another Triathlon Pod (58:52.823)
Thank
Another Triathlon Pod (59:02.699)
Yeah
Josh (59:09.838)
Um, all we saw was six, seven. So hopefully that doesn't make its way to triathlon because we do need some signs, but, uh, but yeah, I feel like Christian, he is down on the ratings, but I think Christian actually factors into this race a little bit too, just because of what he's playing for.
Fed (59:13.367)
my god.
Another Triathlon Pod (59:13.662)
god. No.
Fed (59:16.772)
Six, seven.
Another Triathlon Pod (59:19.325)
Yeah, no, we don't want to see that.
Another Triathlon Pod (59:31.287)
Yeah, absolutely. And you know, he's got that bike and swim strength, right? He's going to be right up there from the start.
Josh (59:37.484)
And he's actually been rested because his big part of the season was what three races in five weeks or something like that, or four races in five weeks. mean, he had that, yeah, that crazy stretch going into Nice.
Another Triathlon Pod (59:45.397)
get all in before the baby comes.
Another Triathlon Pod (59:50.967)
Yeah, and like I said, we've had, I got to shout out the Canadians with Jackson Laundrie. He's been doing some training up at elevation with the Norwegians and stuff. So it was kind of fun to see some of those stories. He's down in 32 on the predictions list there, but it would be great to see him go out there and have an awesome day and actually kind of show up in the race.
Josh (01:00:10.08)
It has a, if he holds on in the swim, this is the thing, like the, the swim bikers are not allowing the Uber bikers to catch up in these races. Like even if Sam Long was there, wouldn't be a factor. mean, it would be like, now, now maybe if Sam and Trevor and Jackson all were there, the three of them could work together, but we've seen it in the T 100 where Sam just like is actually losing time and.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:00:17.751)
That's the hard part, right? Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:00:27.031)
now.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:00:39.543)
Especially on the more client-like bags with clients. Doesn't seem to be there.
Josh (01:00:39.692)
That's, yeah. So those Uber bikers that are not on that front pack or front chase pack of the swim are just not factoring in these races. I don't unfortunately see Jackson factoring unless he has a earth shattering swim. And it sounded like his swim this morning was the first time he's been in open water in a while.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:01:01.975)
Fair enough. Has anyone seen what Vincent Louis' kit looks like for this race yet? I haven't looked, but he's got to have a new fresh one for this race.
Fed (01:01:08.611)
No.
No, no, don't.
Josh (01:01:11.894)
I would imagine he does, but I would imagine he's going to be a factor in this race.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:01:16.693)
He's going to be right at the front end of the swim. He'll definitely be one of the top swimmers, but I have a hard time seeing him hang on on the bike after that with something like this, right? we haven't quite seen those bike times from him. and then of course, one thing that I don't think will be a big factor is usually we see that 12 meters versus 20 meter discussion going on when it comes to some of these pro races and Kona was definitely a talking point, but with a race like this, you got to think it's going to break apart on the bike with that.
because you're not gonna get that draft benefit at 12 meters like you would on a flatter chorus. It's basically gonna be every man for himself just ride the chorus how you can.
Josh (01:01:56.143)
Yeah. And once they get up on the climb too, isn't there similar to nieces and they're a little bit of a plateau that they do have to ride. there probably will be some soft peddling by the guys, like the KBs who like to sit in if he's there. But yeah, you're not going to have that draft benefit that you would normally have. I still think there's going to be a big pack of people that you're going to see a bike pack of 10, 15 guys at least.
Fed (01:01:56.164)
completely.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:02:02.699)
We'll back.
Fed (01:02:09.411)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:02:11.446)
Bye.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:02:20.865)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:02:24.183)
think from the start, with that many swimmers, I think we're going to see like 30 in the first few kilometers of the race, right? It's going to kick off with something ridiculous. that's the part too. So when you have that situation where you have so many people coming out of the swim together, positioning becomes very important. So they're going to have to be going hard from the start just to get into a position where they're not 20 people down the path who miss the breakaway when someone actually does kind of go off there.
Josh (01:02:28.78)
But very beginning, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Josh (01:02:52.942)
Yeah, because it's like what, 5, 10K, like 5, 10K before they even get to the climb.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:02:53.559)
Do you guys see anyone pushing too hard?
Another Triathlon Pod (01:02:58.927)
It's not long at all, right? You don't want to be the person behind the breakway back there and then trying to catch up on the climb when that break happens. I'm so excited for this race. I think it's really going to be incredible. It's so hard to pick with this men's field. Again, this bike course just throws a spanner in the works. We haven't seen a 70.3 with this kind of climbing. We don't know what people can do and how much they'll have left for the run, which just makes it
Josh (01:03:04.621)
now.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:03:26.261)
much more exciting to race.
Josh (01:03:28.706)
there is a tough one.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:03:31.325)
Well, do we want to dive into some of those predictions and attempt to give it a call? Let's... Okay, Josh, you're up first this time. Who do you think is going to take this party? I don't, like, I don't even know who's gonna take this party.
Josh (01:03:37.28)
Let's do it.
Josh (01:03:41.592)
man.
Josh (01:03:46.996)
I think, God.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:03:51.615)
Right? It's just, man, this field.
Josh (01:03:55.427)
So the, one of the other names we didn't mention was Matisse Margier who could factor into this race as well.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:03:58.071)
Cheers.
He's got that swim bike for sure.
Josh (01:04:04.5)
I would love to go with the Jamie Riddle, but he just raced and that's, that's the thing that kind of scares me. He raised what like last week or Barcelona that he got his win. so he's only two weeks fresh. but he's a young kid and yeah, for a race like this and yeah. all right. I'm going to go with. Jonas Schomburg.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:04:09.067)
Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:04:16.119)
free code.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:04:20.311)
mean, he was young, but that's still a lot to bounce back from.
yes.
Josh (01:04:33.74)
for the win.
Fed (01:04:33.963)
Okay.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:04:34.805)
This one I was looking at, yeah.
Josh (01:04:36.974)
And, and then we'll go with Casper in second, KB in third.
Fed (01:04:42.498)
Mmm. I like it.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:04:43.383)
I like it. How about you Fede, who you got here?
Fed (01:04:48.748)
Okay, I'm gonna... Okay, I'm gonna go Gustav first, Jelle second, and Casper third.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:04:55.143)
I like it. Yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:05:02.399)
Okay. Oh my goodness. Okay. You got pretty close to what I was thinking there, Josh, but let's see. I'm going to go Yellow Beans for the win. I he pulls it out on the big day. Jonas Schomburg is going to be right behind him and then Christian Blumenfeld is going to hold on. Yeah.
Josh (01:05:19.692)
Very similar. Yeah. Yeah. We didn't really talk about Yonis so that we just threw him in there.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:05:24.855)
I just love the way he races and it's got to pay off at some point. it's just like, his bike is going to hold together. It's going to all come together on the day.
Fed (01:05:24.95)
Yeah.
Fed (01:05:30.5)
Right.
Josh (01:05:30.542)
Exactly. It's like.
Josh (01:05:38.07)
It'd be cool to see yellow up top, but I think we all expect yellow to win this, but it's just, we want to have some fun with it. And, if yellow has, if yellow has a bike, this is probably a runaway, but, yeah.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:05:46.377)
Mm.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:05:52.267)
Orgone conclusion. Yeah. Yeah. He's got that killer run. Well, we are definitely going to be watching it and waiting for all the excitement to go down. They do have the pro press conference happening in just under an hour. So you won't hear this by then, but definitely that'll be a thing to tune in and try to get a little bit more sense of how everyone's actually feeling. Cause you can definitely tell there are some tired bodies coming out here. especially on the women's side. We'll see how they bounce back from it all. Other than that.
Go follow at another travel on podcast because I'm to be running around everywhere. If you're on the YouTube, I've got my official media credentials, so I get to play everywhere and get all the behind the scenes. So I'll definitely be putting all of that up on the add another travel podcast Instagram page. So go give us a follow there so you don't miss any of the action or if there's anything you want to see here race week, give us send us a message there and I will definitely try to cover it as much of it as I can.
I'm gonna go do a little walk through the expo after the pro series so you guys can see kind of the energy and the vibe that's going down over there because it's pretty cool.
Josh (01:06:55.118)
Nice. And make sure you give us a follow because like Jenna said, there's going to be an episode that drops next week that you don't want to miss. So after the big weekend this weekend, don't have that come down that we all have after race day and come back and listen to next week's post race episode.
Fed (01:07:13.284)
Exactly.
Another Triathlon Pod (01:07:13.653)
Gotta keep the energy going for sure. Well, is there anything else guys before we call it a day on this preview show?
Josh (01:07:21.484)
Now the sun finally came up.
Fed (01:07:23.244)
