This week on Another Triathlon Podcast, Jenna-Caer (@jennacaer) and Josh (@joshmvernon) are joined by special guest Nick Goldston from That Triathlon Life.

Nick joins the show to talk about how he found triathlon, his love of bikes, the draw of endurance sport, and how he balances training with a very different kind of career as a Grammy-winning songwriter, producer, teacher and creative.

The conversation dives into the overlap between creative work and triathlon, why triathlon feels so satisfying because of its measurable progress, and how racing gives people a way to find discomfort in a world that has become almost too comfortable.

Nick also shares how he became part of the That Triathlon Life podcast with Eric Lagerstrom and Paula Findlay, what it’s like being the age group voice alongside two pros, and how that community has shaped his relationship with the sport.

From there, the crew catches up on recent racing, including Josh’s sprint triathlon weekend and Jenna-Caer’s duathlon provincial championship win and World Championship qualification.

The episode wraps with previews for T100 Vancouver and Ironman Kalmar, including Paula Findlay racing on Canadian soil, Georgia Taylor-Brown, Kate Waugh and Julie Derron in the T100 mix, and a strong Ironman Kalmar field with Laura Philipp, Jackie Hering, Matthew Marquardt, Jonas Schomburg, Trevor Foley, Greg Barnaby and more.

Guest Segment: Nick Goldston

Nick talks about falling in love with bikes as a kid, finding triathlon later in life, and realizing the sport gave him a way to measure progress in a way creative work often does not.

He also shares how he first connected with Eric Lagerstrom through music, how that friendship eventually became part of That Triathlon Life, and why the podcast works because each host brings something real and different to the table.

One of the biggest themes of the conversation is authenticity: in music, in podcasting, and in sport. Nick talks about how trying to predict what people want rarely works as well as simply saying something true and trusting that people will connect with it.

Race Preview: T100 Vancouver

The T100 series returns in Vancouver with a women’s-only race and a start list full of interesting question marks.

Georgia Taylor-Brown looks like one of the favourites, especially with her strength on the bike and current form. Julie Derron and Kate Waugh are also major names to watch, while Lucy Byram, Taylor Spivey, Lydia Russell and others could all shape the race.

Paula Findlay is also racing after her Ironman Lake Placid win, and with the race taking place in Canada, there is plenty of excitement around seeing what she can do after such a strong full-distance debut.

Race Preview: Ironman Kalmar

Ironman Kalmar is the final Ironman Pro Series race before the World Championship races, with Kona slots and points still on the line.

On the men’s side, the field includes Jonas Schomburg, Matthew Marquardt, Antonio Benito López, Greg Barnaby, Trevor Foley, Matt Hanson, Cameron Wurf and more. With several athletes already qualified for Kona, the slots could roll, but the Pro Series points still make this a very important race.

Matthew Marquardt comes in after a strong season and fresh off the podcast interview in Episode 141, while Jonas Schomburg is still looking for the kind of full-distance performance that matches his front-end swim-bike strength. Trevor Foley is another major name to watch as he continues chasing Pro Series points.

On the women’s side, Laura Philipp is the clear name to watch if she is on form. Jackie Hering, Katrine Græsbøll Christensen, Rachel Zelinskis and Sarah Svensk add depth, but if Laura races like the athlete we know she can be, she will be very hard to beat.
